Blog Post 2: Evolving
characters
Over the course of the Harry
Potter novels, many characters experienced a development of character
attributes and traits. One character
that I noticed who grew from the beginning of the books to the end was Ron Weasly.
In the beginning of book one, we meet
Ron Weasley, who is a shy, kid who is ashamed of his background, and family
earnings. Though out the books, Ron
begins to learn that money is not everything. Ron started the series as the sidekick of
Harry, he was always in the shadows of Harry, Hermione, and his brothers. Ron also provided comic relief throughout the
series. Changes that Ron underwent were
a growth in confidence, use of his skill set.
Ron goes from one of the most unconfident characters to one of most
loyal and confidence driven characters.
Another character that experienced development is Hermoine. She goes from the nerdy girl that no one
wanted to talk to, to a woman who went through a multitude of experiences. Hermoine changes in the way she dealt with
her studies. From the beginning of the
series she was very infatuated with book smarts, towards the end of the series
she relaxed on those ideas and realized that book smarts are not everything. These characters mentioned experienced
changes that can be seen as the maturation changes that many individuals go
through. Both characters went from unconfident to characters that blossomed
into loyal confident characters. JK
Rowling did an effective job in the development of these characters from children
that they were when the series started to the matured adults that began the
quest to defeat Voldemort.
