Blog #3 The End of the Series

On completing the Harry Potter series I felt that some things were sad and others, like the fact that Voldemort was finally defeated, were good and needed. I was upset that Fred had to die. In that moment in the book it would have been better if it had been Percy who died instead of Fred. Percy had just come to his senses and was finally able to rejoin his family and help against the fight to defeat Voldemort. Percy had been supporting the Ministry through their every decision and by him doing this he pretty much dishonored his family, whom he thought were dishonoring the Ministry. When he finally got away from the Ministry he was welcomed back into his family like nothing had happened. Fred on the other hand was all for defeating Voldemort and was put in the wrong place. Tonks is another person who did not have to die. She could have just stayed at home with her child instead of coming to aid her husband and the Order. I know that Tonks knew what she was getting herself into but sometimes you’ve got to think of how your decision will affect others. Harry felt awful that all those who had died had been his own fault. When he walked into the forest to end his life he just felt that everyone who he known personally death were his own fault and by giving himself up he was able to stop more deaths from happening.
The way that Rowling presented first finding out about Dumbledore was through Rita Skeeter’s book. As seen in the fourth Harry Potter book, Rita Skeeter does not necessarily tell the truth in her written works.  When Harry finds out about the truth of Dumbledore’s past he feels better about the myths raised by Skeeter. I thought that it was nice to know something about Dumbledore. The way Skeeter presented the information about Dumbledore made Dumbledore seem like a bad guy. Skeeter made it seem like Dumbledore was a bad guy who killed his sister and wanted to join forces with Grindelwald, who was seen as a bad wizard. As it turned out Dumbledore did not know who killed his sister and that all he and Gridelwald had in common was to get ahold of the Deathly Hallows.
When it comes to Snape I had always liked him. One reason for this is because I watched the first three movies before I read the books and I like Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Snape. I liked how Snape was able to help out Harry without Harry even knowing. Snape was helping because of his love of Lily Potter. They had met as kids and were pretty much best friends. The only reason that they were not together was because of Snape’s interest in the dark arts. The only reason why he had picked on Harry was because of his hatred of James Potter. I thought it’s cute that Snape was trying to help his one loves child and he was sad when he found out that Dumbledore was trying to raise Harry to be killed. It is a little strange to imagine Snape having feelings, but once they were exposed it made his death not in vain.
