Final Blog

I loved the way Rowling portrayed Dumbledore in the last book. Dumbledore was always portrayed as a mighty wizard, but in the last book, Rowling revealed his true story. She showed that Dumbledore was once naïve like Harry. He devoted a large portion of his young life to search for the Hallows with Grindelwald while simultaneously losing contact with his own family. He cared a lot more about himself than anyone else, and it caught up to him in the end. His own sister ended up dying in the middle of a duel between Albus and his brother, Aberforth.
The reason I enjoyed Dumbledore’s story so much is because it showed that he started off as a normal boy. Dumbledore earned every achievement given to him. He had to endure a life full of adversity before he could become one of the greatest wizards to live.

Snape’s revelations at the end of the last booking were also very surprising. Rowling could have created many stories to explain Snape’s behavior throughout the series, but she managed to pick one a story to explain almost all of his ulterior motives. His love for Lily fueled most of his life decisions, and even caused Snape to renounce his loyalty as a Death Eater.

I am usually disappointed with the ends of series, but the Harry Potter series was an exception (along with Star Wars). There was a perfect balance of unexpectedness. Rowling created somewhat of a fairy tale ending, but also kept it far from cliché. This was my first time finishing the series, and I have never seen the movies either. Overall, I’d give it a 9/10. I was very impressed.
