Blog #3

The end of the series, for me, brought closure. Throughout the entire series Rowling kept us guessing on what was going to happen next and then she finally ended it with many plot twists. I thought the way she chose to end it was unpredictable and fascinating. Dumbledore and Snape's agreement and relationship was one that I was never expecting. We finally, after seven long books, get insight as to why Snape treats Harry the way he does. I never would have guessed that Snape was actually protecting Harry, given the evil way he always treated him. It turned out that he was not treating him poorly because of who he was, but because Harry resembled James so much. His hatred for James was compensated for by his unrequited love for Lily - a much stronger emotion.
I always expected that Dumbledore had a hidden agenda and Snape had something to do with it. I was never exactly sure what is was until the end of the book. It was necessary and in everyone's best interest for Dumbledore and Snape to keep their agreement secret. Otherwise, Voldemort had the potential to find out and Snape could no longer act as a spy to keep Harry safe. Snape ended up being one of my favorite characters; he was a blessing in disguise. He helped Harry out in many ways such as when Harry, Ron, and Hermione are in the Forest of Dean and Snape sends the Sword of Gryffindor to them using his silver doe Patronus to lead Harry to it.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione will forever be a dynamic trio. They each bring their own strengths to the table to help on their mission. They risk everything for each other and that is the mark of true friendship. Even though Ron leaves, he know he has made a mistake and must return to help his friends. Rowling even makes Neville Longbottom a hero; proving that everyone has the potential to do what no one thinks they are capable of. Harry marrying Ginny and Ron marrying Hermione was the perfect ending. The fact that their kids were all on their way to Hogwarts allows for the reader's imagination to run rampant. I would love it if Rowling wrote another series based around their kids, but that is probably just wishful thinking. I think that the Harry Potter series is one for that ages, not just this decade. It contains deeper meanings than what meets the eye; it is not just a fantastical book about wizards at a wizarding school. It is about the importance of friendship, loyalty, love, and much, much more.
